Sr. Database Administrator
Description
We are looking for a technically deep, automation-minded individual to join our team as a Sr Database Administrator. This role serves as a senior technical authority responsible for the performance, integrity, availability, and security of USANA’s Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server database environments, including leading our on-premises to AWS RDS cloud migration. The successful candidate will leverage advanced AI coding tools and enterprise AI agent platforms to accelerate delivery, reduce manual toil, and drive continuous improvement across the database landscape.
- Design, implement, and manage Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server databases with a focus on high availability, reliability, and peak performance
- Conduct regular system audits, capacity planning, and performance tuning — including query optimization, index strategy, and wait-event analysis
- Administer clustering, Always On Availability Groups (AOAG), and replication technologies to ensure continuous data availability
- Maintain robust backup, recovery, and disaster-recovery strategies and regularly validate recoverability targets (RTO/RPO)
- Lead and execute USANA’s on-premises to AWS RDS migration, covering Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server workloads
- Architect and implement AWS RDS and Aurora configurations, including Multi-AZ deployments, read replicas, and automated backups
- Configure AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and Schema Conversion Tool (SCT) for schema translation and data transfer
- Develop and maintain advanced Python and Bash automation scripts using AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) to accelerate development
- Design, build, and implement end-to-end automated AI workflows using enterprise AI agent and MCP platforms such as TrueFoundry
- Develop, implement, and enforce database security policies including role-based access control, auditing, data masking, and encryption standards
- Manage database secrets, credentials, and certificates using AWS Secrets Manager and organizational vault solutions
- Collaborate with IT, application development, and data engineering teams to align database architecture with business strategy
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level DBAs, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and continuous learning
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical database incidents and provide timely escalation and resolution
What You Will Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent professional experience
- 5+ years of hands-on DBA experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL, and/or SQL Server in production environments
- Demonstrated experience with AWS RDS, Aurora, and cloud database migration projects
- Proficiency in Python and Bash scripting for database automation and monitoring
- Experience with AWS DMS, SCT, IAM, Secrets Manager, and cloud security best practices
- Working knowledge of DevOps tools including Ansible AWX, Git/Bitbucket, and database deployment frameworks such as RedGate Flyway
- Strong understanding of high-availability architectures, backup/recovery strategies, and disaster recovery
What Will Make You Standout
- Hands-on experience with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor) and enterprise AI agent/MCP platforms for workflow automation
- Experience with Quest SharePlex replication and Always On Availability Groups (AOAG)
- AWS certification (e.g., Database Specialty, Solutions Architect) is a strong plus
- Familiarity with data masking, compliance frameworks, and vulnerability remediation in database environments
